Admiral Lisa Franchetti becomes first woman to lead US Navy.

  • Admiral Lisa Franchetti has been chosen by US President Joe Biden to be the next Chief of Naval Operations, making her the first woman to hold this position in the US Navy's history and also the first woman in the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
  • Lisa Franchetti is currently serving as the vice chief of naval operations.
  • She was commissioned in 1985 and has served as the commander of US Naval Forces Korea, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Warfighting Development, and director for Strategy, Plans, and Policy of the Joint Staff.
  • She has also commanded two carrier strike groups. She became the Vice CNO in September 2022.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Semicon India 2023 in Gandhinagar.
  • Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel will inaugurate a special exhibition for public which will inform about the manufacturing process of semiconductors and the progress made in this field.

  • Union Minister of State Science & Technology Jitendra Singh confirmed that India's first Cannabis Medicine Project is set to be pioneered in Jammu.
  • This project will play a vital role in Atma-Nirbhar Bharat, as it will be capable of producing export-quality drugs designed for various neuropathies etc.
  • The project will spread awareness that this substance of abuse has diverse medicinal uses, especially for patients suffering from malignancies and other diseases.


Seven-year-old Indian-origin girl wins UK PM’s Points of Light award.

  • A seven-year-old Indian-origin schoolgirl, who started volunteering for a United Nations' sustainability initiative against microplastic pollution when she was just three, has been awarded the British Prime Minister’s Points of Light award.
  • Moksha Roy, who received the award from Deputy British Prime Minister Oliver Dowden, has been given the title of the world's youngest sustainability advocate.
  • Moksha has been recognised for volunteering for several sustainability campaigns, including raising funds to help children in need.
  • She has also assisted in educational sessions for deprived school children in India.


India hands over fully operational warship to Vietnam.

  • On completing 32 years of illustrious service to the nation, Indian Naval Ship Kirpan has been decommissioned from the Indian Navy and Handed Over to Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN) at Cam Ranh, Vietnam.
  • INS Kirpan, since commissioning in 1991, has been an integral part of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet and has participated in many operations over the last 32 years.
  • Manned by about 12 officers and 100 sailors, the ship is 90 meters long and 10.45 meters in width with a maximum displacement of 1450 tons.
  • The ship has been handed over today to Vietnam People’s Navy with a complete weapon complement.
  • This is the first time India has gifted a fully operational, in-service corvette to any friendly foreign country.
