Banks write off bad loans worth Rs 2.09 lakh crore in 2022-23: RBI.

  • According to the RBI’s data during the financial year 2022-23, banks wrote off bad loans amounting to over Rs 2.09 lakh crore, contributing to a total loan write-off of Rs 10.57 lakh crore by the banking sector over the past five years.
  • This loan write-off to bring down gross non-performing assets or defaulted loans to a 10-year low of 3.9 percent of advances by March 2023.
  • According to RBI, banks have written off a total of Rs 15,31,453 crore since FY2012-13.


Gujarat to host 69th edition of Filmfare Awards in 2024.

  • Gujarat will host the 69th edition of Filmfare Awards in 2024, and an MoU has signed between state government’s tourism cooperation and Worldwide Media (WWM) to host the event and promote the state as a film destination.
  • The Guest of Honour for the event will be Minister of Forest and Environment of Gujarat Mulubhai Bera.
  • Traditionally held in Mumbai, the Filmfare Awards will take a detour to Gujarat for the 2024 edition.


Inclusion of NongHyup Bank in Second Schedule: RBI Notification.

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has informed all banks about the addition of NongHyup Bank to the Second Schedule of the RBI Act, 1934.
  • According to the RBI, NongHyup Bank has been officially included in the regulated list through a prior notification issued on June 20, 2023, and published in the Gazette of India.
  • It is an agricultural bank headquartered in South Korea.
  • The bank was established in 2012 owned by the NACF.
  • Nonghyup Bank entered India in 2016.


Rajasthan Introduces India’s First Gig Workers Bill 2023.

  • The Rajasthan Assembly passed a bill for the formation of a welfare board as well as a fund for platform-based gig workers in the state and to facilitate social security for them.
  • The Platform-Based Gig Workers (Registration and Welfare) Bill, 2023, was passed in the Assembly without a debate amid uproar by the opposition members in the House.
  • Aggregators, which include food delivery apps and e-marketing platforms, must provide the Rajasthan government with a database of all platform-based gig workers on-boarded or registered with them within sixty days of the Act’s implementation.
  • Gig worker refers to someone who earns from such activities outside of the traditional employer-employee relationship and who works on a contract.


Kamaljeet bagged two golds in Junior Shooting World Championships 2023.

  • Indian player Kamaljeet won two gold medals in the 50-meter free pistol event in the Junior World Championship 2023 in Changwon, Korea.
  • In this championship, India was second on the medals table with six gold, six silver, and five bronze medals.
  • China stayed on top with 12 gold, nine silver, and seven bronze medals.
  • In the women’s free pistol, Tiyana Phogat won the silver, one point behind Khanna Aliyeva of Azerbaijan.
