Gavi–UNICEF Deal Boosts Access to R21/Matrix-M Malaria Vaccine.

• Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and UNICEF have announced a new agreement to make the R21/Matrix-M malaria vaccine more affordable and accessible for countries in need.
• UNICEF, the world’s largest vaccine buyer, procures nearly three billion doses every year, strengthening global immunisation coverage.
• WHO has prequalified two malaria vaccines so far: R21/Matrix-M and RTS, S/AS01.

UN Report: Woman or Girl Killed Every 10 Minutes in 2024.

• A new UNODC–UN Women report warns that a woman or girl is killed every 10 minutes worldwide, showing no meaningful progress in preventing femicide.
• The 2025 femicide report, released on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, estimates 83,000 women and girls were deliberately killed in 2024.
• Africa recorded the highest femicide rate.

India–Nepal Begin 19th Edition of Exercise Suryakiran.

• India and Nepal have started the 19th edition of Exercise Suryakiran in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, strengthening bilateral military cooperation.
• Exercise Suryakiran, launched in 2011, is held annually on a reciprocal basis between the Indian Army and the Nepal Army.
• The 18th edition of the exercise took place in Saljhandi, Nepal, continuing the tradition of alternating locations each year.

Australian Study Finds Vascular Changes Key to Parkinson’s Progression.

• Australian researchers have discovered progressive, region-specific changes in the brain’s blood vessels, reshaping the scientific understanding of Parkinson’s disease.
• The study from Neuroscience Research Australia shows that Parkinson’s affects the cerebrovasculature, expanding the focus beyond protein buildup and neuronal loss.
• It was published in the journal Brain.

INS Vikrant Arrives in Colombo for International Fleet Review 2025.

• The Indian Navy’s INS Vikrant, India’s first fully indigenous aircraft carrier, arrived at the Port of Colombo to participate in the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2025.
• IFR 2025 is being held as part of the Sri Lanka Navy’s 75th-anniversary celebrations, bringing together international naval fleets to showcase regional maritime cooperation.
